SIM Swap Fraud
Pause, verify the request through an official channel and never act under pressure.
What is this fraud?
A criminal fraudulently obtains a replacement SIM or ports the victim's number to intercept calls and OTPs.
How does it happen?
Stolen identity information, forged documents or social engineering is used with the telecom provider, followed by takeover of banking or online accounts.
Warning signs
Sudden loss of mobile network; SIM/porting messages not requested by you; inability to call or receive SMS; unexpected password resets.
How to stay safe
Contact the telecom provider immediately if service stops unexpectedly. Protect identity documents, use app-based MFA where available and set a SIM PIN.
If you are a victim
Ask the telecom provider to block the replacement/port, inform banks, change passwords, call 1930 for loss and obtain the SIM-change records.
Evidence to preserve
Keep transaction IDs or UTRs, bank messages, screenshots, chats, emails, phone numbers, profiles, URLs, app details, and the exact date and time. Preserve original files without editing or deleting them.
