CYBER SAFETY GUIDE

Insurance Fraud

Pause, verify the request through an official channel and never act under pressure.

Relationship & Service FraudsLast reviewed: 8 September 2026

What is this fraud?

A scammer impersonates an insurer/agent or offers a fake policy, bonus, refund, maturity amount or claim settlement.

How does it happen?

The victim is asked to pay tax, renewal, processing or account-verification charges or disclose policy and banking credentials.

Warning signs

Guaranteed bonus/refund; payment to an individual account; caller knows partial policy details; urgency; request for OTP/PIN; unofficial email or link.

How to stay safe

Verify the policy and caller directly with the insurer using official contact details. Pay premiums only through approved channels and obtain a receipt.

If you are a victim

Inform the insurer and bank, call 1930 for financial loss, report online and preserve the caller details, policy copy, receipt and transactions.

Evidence to preserve

Keep transaction IDs or UTRs, bank messages, screenshots, chats, emails, phone numbers, profiles, URLs, app details, and the exact date and time. Preserve original files without editing or deleting them.
