What is this fraud?

Someone gains unauthorised access to a social-media account and may misuse it for scams, impersonation or data theft.

How does it happen?

Password reuse, phishing pages, malicious apps, stolen OTPs/session tokens or fake copyright/verification messages enable takeover.

Warning signs

Unknown login alert; changed email/password; posts or messages you did not send; friends receiving money requests; unexplained linked apps.

How to stay safe

Use a unique password and MFA, review sessions and connected apps, avoid login links and keep recovery email/phone current.

If you are a victim

Use the platform's official recovery process, revoke sessions, change email/password, warn contacts and report financial misuse via 1930/cybercrime.gov.in.

Evidence to preserve

Keep transaction IDs or UTRs, bank messages, screenshots, chats, emails, phone numbers, profiles, URLs, app details, and the exact date and time. Preserve original files without editing or deleting them.
