Family Emergency/Voice-Clone Fraud
Pause, verify the request through an official channel and never act under pressure.
What is this fraud?
A criminal impersonates a relative or uses cloned audio/video to claim an emergency and request immediate money.
How does it happen?
Publicly available voice/video is used with AI or a look-alike account; the scammer claims arrest, accident, hospitalisation or phone loss.
Warning signs
New number; unusual voice or wording; secrecy; urgent transfer; caller prevents direct verification; payment to an unrelated account.
How to stay safe
Call the relative on a known number, verify with another family member and use a private family safety question before paying.
If you are a victim
Alert the bank, call 1930, report online and save the audio/video, number, profile, account details and timestamps.
Evidence to preserve
Keep transaction IDs or UTRs, bank messages, screenshots, chats, emails, phone numbers, profiles, URLs, app details, and the exact date and time. Preserve original files without editing or deleting them.
