Fake Police/CBI Call Fraud
Pause, verify the request through an official channel and never act under pressure.
What is this fraud?
A caller pretends to be a police/CBI officer and alleges that the victim or the victim's identity is connected to a crime.
How does it happen?
Fear is created using fake case numbers, badges, notices or transferred calls, followed by demands for money, account details or remote access.
Warning signs
Payment to avoid arrest; secrecy; abusive pressure; transfer to a 'senior officer'; request for OTP/PIN; police verification through a personal bank account.
How to stay safe
End the call and verify through an independently obtained official number or visit the nearest police station. Do not share financial credentials.
If you are a victim
Inform the bank, call 1930 for loss, report online and keep the caller ID, recordings, fake notices and transaction information.
Evidence to preserve
Keep transaction IDs or UTRs, bank messages, screenshots, chats, emails, phone numbers, profiles, URLs, app details, and the exact date and time. Preserve original files without editing or deleting them.
